Wood Carvings
Description
Over the last 40 years, Wood Masters has grown to represent New Zealand's unique cultural heritage by successfully combining Whakairo (The Art of Maori carving) with fine European craftsmanship. The locally trained carvers, using traditional techniques, work alongside other expert woodworkers with different technical skills.Concern for the environment and the sense of Kaitiakitanga (stewardship) continues to guide the careful selection of renewable timbers from the sustainably managed forests and the handling of waste products.
Waka (Māori: [ˈwaka]) are Māori watercraft, usually canoes ranging in size from small, unornamented canoes (waka tīwai) used for fishing and river travel to large, decorated war canoes (waka taua) up to 40 metres (130 ft) long.
